SUMMARY:Climate Projections as a Way to Illustrate Future Possibilities
DESCRIPTION:Precipitation and water are among the greatest concerns with respect to ecosystems\, agriculture\, and water supply management in the south-central United States. South Central CASC researcher Adrienne Wootten will explain how details in climate projections can affect our understanding of future precipitation\, and how these projections can inform impact assessments and climate adaptation planning. \nLearn more and sign up for this webinar here

SUMMARY:Climate Discussion: Christians\, Climate & Our Culture
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Katharine Hayhoe for a riveting climate discussion. Accomplished atmospheric scientist\, professor and director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University. Hayhoe is recognized for her research on climate change\, one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today\, although she may be best-known for bridging the broad gap between scientists and Christians- work she does in part because she’s a Christian herself. She’s been named by Christianity Today as one of their 50 Women to Watch and currently hosts the PBS digital series\, Global Weirding: Climate\, Politics and Religion.\nKatherine has also served as a lead author for the Second\, Third and Fourth U.S. National Climate Assessments. Recipient of the National Center for Science Education’s Friend of the Planet award\, the American Geophysical Union’s Climate Communication Prize\, the Sierra Club’s Distinguished Service Award\, and the Stephen H. Schneider Climate Communication Award. Hayhoe is also named one TIME’s 100 Most Influential People and Fortune’s 50 World’s Greatest Leaders. \nOpen to the public and free to attend!

SUMMARY:3 Minute Thesis Competition
DESCRIPTION:We would like to extend our congratulations to Paulina Ćwik\, for being selected to the University of Oklahoma’s Three Minute Thesis final competition!\nDuring her presentation\, she will discuss her thesis pertaining to the recognition and description of large-scale atmospheric patterns associated with tornado outbreak occurrences. Identification of those patterns requires analysis of atmospheric fields\, such as geopotential heights\, temperatures or precipitation that occurs during or shortly before the biggest historic outbreaks. The idea is to find patterns that occurred most often and describe them so this knowledge can be used in future tornado outbreak prediction efforts.
